INSPIRATION//: GIRL INTERRUPTED

My love for striped tops came from this film, and when I put on my crisp stripe top, I always like to think that I look at elegant and doll like as Winona Ryder does, but the truth is I'm far from it.

Girl Interrupted, is by far one of my favourite films. It is Based on the book (of the same name), of author Susanna Kaysen's 18-month stay at a mental hospital in the 1960s. She enter's the hospital because of her depression and an attempted suicide which she denies doing. The film continues from here, and introducing other amazing characters. Georgina is a pathological liar. Polly has been badly scarred by fire. Daisy (Brittany Murphy) won't eat in the presence of other people. Lisa (Angelina Jolie) is a sociopath, and the biggest influence on the other girls in the hospita, and has a history of escapes. It's my favourite role of Angelina Jolie ever. 

The styling however, is not typically 1960's, there is no mini skirts and beehives, Winona's character is the modern Audery Hepburn, Breton tops, men's shirts, tailored trousers and comfy loafers, her hair is also so elegant too, when ever I am dressing for work, I always like to try and capture this look, to me it's the ultimate feminine look.

FILM-SPIRATION: Factory girl

When stuck on what to wear, and I'm getting ready to go out. A meal with the boyfriend, drinks with friends etc, I don't race through pages of magazines, swat pages and pages on tumblr blogs, or ring my friends to ask what they are wearing - I watch a film.

Watching a film is so much better for inspiration than a magazine, If you like one particular characters style you get to see them dressed in so many ways, in different outfits, different times of the day, different occasions etc - a million more times than a magazine!

they only thing i suck is my lipstick

I got distracted in the make up isle of  superdrug on my lunch break today.

it was 3 for 2 on Rimmel, so i just couldn't say no! I have been in love with the Kate Moss collection of Lipsticks since they came out, and have slowly treated myself to one every so often. today i brought 2, plus a lip tint pen.

the liptint pen is shade 110 'stay very berry', the pink lipstick is shade 02 and the orange is 12.

I have a strange love for orange lipstick. every since watching Audrey Hepburn but a shade on in Breakfast at Tiffany's before she leave's her empty apartment. I now own 3 or 4 of them; none of make me as beautiful as her though......

true romance

it is valentines day (so i have noticed!); sadly i only get to see ny boyfriend at the weekend becuase of work, so tonight i am treating myself to a cheap bottle of wine and my favourite romance film - True Romance.

True Romance is a Tarantino film (so automatically, you'll know what to expect). It is Christian Slater's character's birthday. He's a lonely guy but happy amoungst himself. His work collegues hire the new 'escort' on the block Alabama (played by Patricia Arquetta) to 'bump' into Slater and make it a night to remember. It is Alabama's second night working, she fails mesribly and falls for Christian Slater instead of leaving her feelings at the door.

Alabama's pimp (gary oldman) won't let her leave so Slater, turns to the rescue kills him and steals his cocaine stash. The two of them are then on the run. Trying to escape police and Oldman's men, while trying to sell huge amounts of cocaine unexperienced and unknowledgable.
the film goes on, feature a young time waster and stoner (brad pitt), but second to all of this; another reason i am quite in love with this film is Patrica Arquetta's character's style. 50's kitsch meets 80's miami - fall in love with these images and you will be in love as me.

FILM STYLE

In the last week i have seen 2 stylish films. The Iron Lady, and The Artist.

The iron lady is good but strange film. I heard David Cameron say he wished that the film hadn't been released yet, and since seeing it i completely agree. The film concentrates on Margret Thatcher’s present life, an old women lost in the fast past world of London with a slowly deteriorating health and mental state. The film looks back at how her life planned out, the mistakes she made and how she would if had the chance possibly change things. It is a memoir and like David Cameron said, it is odd to have such a dedicated memoir about someone in their last days that is still alive.

However saying this, the film is good; and I’ve since wanted to find out more about Mrs Thatcher and what she did as prime minster. I don’t know a lot nor agree with what I do know, but I deeply admire her for what she achieved in a man’s world.

Style wise, it’s great. Maggie is well known for always wearing blue and the film was no different. A particular scene that I loved Margret Thatcher was stood in front of her wardrobe and inside was a sea of azure blue dresses, jackets, blouses and skirts. I was jealous. To put it bluntly blue is my favourite colour and I cannot wear it. With my olive skin too me it just never looks right.

i've picked through the shops and here is the best Iron Lady blue.

THE ARTIST:

 What can i say about the artist. it is truely a brillant film. i watched it sunday and had to travel 20 miles out of town to see it (we are obviously not cultured enough in my home town) i really recommend absolutely everyone to see, and see it on the big screen too. Some films are made for the big 1000 inch screen and it really adds to the atmospehre, waiting for the film to come out on dvd and watching it on the small screen just isn't going to give the film enough justice.

 Since watching the film i'm having a little 1920's rivial and keep goggling images online, i espcially love the photograph's of groups of girls and dress pattern drawings.

my favourtite film for 1920's style is actual Changling staring Angelina Jolie. The film is based on a true story of a women that's child went missing. Month's later the police find who they believe is her son, but mother knows best and it isn't. suddenly she is living with this strange boy in her house that is claiming to be her son, she fights the police to find her true child that have now given up the search and evenutlly they send her to a mental hospital. 

it's a very sad story, and a great watch i remcommend this too. Angelina as ever pulls off the 1920's single mother look with ease and i love watching her in it. strangely i think it is her hair that i am most in love with.
