What to wear: at the races

This post comes because next Saturday I will be attending the Ladies Race Day in my home town Newbury. So, of course with just a week to go, the big question 'What do I wear?' has come to mind. 

Newbury races is a funny one. It is a lot more casual than what you see and hear about Ascot, you can count the number of hats and fascinators you'll see on one hand. There are no rules on skirt lengths and dress straps. What people tend to wear is simular to a night out or a wedding - a standard dress and heels kinda thing.

I am unfortunately to poor to buy anything new for this occasion, but here are a few dresses I have put together for your inspiration.

This post has made me really excited now. Unlike normal race events, Newbury races have a tradition of ending the day's event with a music concert. The year before last, I took my little sister to see Jessie J, my boyfriend, brother and his girl friend saw Rita Ora last year and this Saturday its a night of music with Pete Tong and Annie Mac from Radio 1.

Well when I first saw the Topshop Grey T-shirt i knew I needed it in my life, but now seeing the 'Coke' brand pop up all over the high street I'm just spoilt for choice! Which one would you go for?

Check Mate

So, it's official According to the fashion a retail worlds, Summer is officially over and it's time for the AW13 trends. Of course though, because of the recent heatwave we have been experiencing shops are desperate trying to keep their news AW13 trends as light as possible, holding on to short sleeves, light colours and fabrics. Even desperately designing new pieces and putting them straight to production; to take advantage of the crazy long lasting Summer. Irony is though its AUGUST!! It's suppose to be warm! Retail moves so quickly that the pushing the new seasons on us faster than the changing weather.

So now, all the new trends oooze mixed pieces that you can wear now and sooo incredibly easily wear though winter too. Continuing with the 90's rival, AW13 is seeing the return of grunge, Tartan and Checks. Yay!! My second favourite print! Cleverly alot of store are introducing them in light bright colours to suit the current climate, but chuck on a pair of Doc Martens and opaque tights, you've got your AW sussed.

Topshop has the best choices of tartan/check right now, but other stores are slowly introducing them too. Wait until we are fully in season, and you'll be sick of the print I'm sure.

Think i have just died and gone to shoe heaven! How bloody amazing are these shoes!! And they are shelly's! Who remembers Shelly's??! I remember when I was a young adolescent that 'Shelly's' were the shoes to have as a young lady, and you had to shop in Faith (remember them!) and have a Kookai Shoulder bag! hahaha! Fortunately I was never in the 'it' crowd at school, so Clark shoes and a TK Maxx bag was all I had to muster.

 - Moral of the story is I have a fashion blog, fashion job and none of those 'cool' girls from school do :)

I fell for this 'parental advisory' wife beater in the mens section of h&m last month. And I couldn't wait to get it home, pose around and dream of summer - which this will be a staple.
Anyways, buying the top it occurred to me that I have A LOT of mens clothes, and I thought I'll show you into my wardrobe of androgynous pieces. I have worn 'boys' clothes for as long as I can remember, something of the 'lad' within me and trying to be one of the boys is probably to blame, but I always just loved the way that mens clothes are cut, they look great on a women's body.

there such thing as a shopping rehab?  if so i think i might need to go.

what was going to start as a post for 2 new items on wednesday, I have now up-ed it to 14!! And thats not even it! I also squeezed in some internet buys that haven't arrived yet! 

I've felt really inspired this week, and instead of lashing out my creativity on a canvas, which I used to do, I now splash it all over my wallet and wardrobe. DUMB is the word you are looking for!

I will probably be taking some of these back, as I cant really afford it all and Im sure my boyfriend would quite like a birthday present this month instead of seeing me in a new pair of shoes.

But regardless I'll talk you through what I have brought! Today I went for a detour in the new shopping centre on the way to and FROM work (seriously what is wrong with me!) This morning In New Look i brought these bright red espadrille's; I didn't want a pair at all but then saw a girl yesterday wearing a red pair like this and i was like 'I want those!' so had to have them. Also from New Look were these absolutely amazing blue wedges!!!! Aren't they just amazing! I wanted them in black months ago, but being good I was waiting till payday arrived, it did finally and they rang out of my size! even online too (i checked) so I took it as a sign, that it just wasn't meant to be. And I sign it was because they now come in this amazing electric blue!

Everywhere is having a HUGE HUGE sale right now, and I also brought from New Look in the sale this lime green vest for just £2 and oversized crop lace jumper for £6. the jumper is actually size 16, but I always try different sizes on when buying because sometimes over sizes just look better. This jumper is now a great slouchy oversized look. Also I could help myself and brought this camoflage tank top for £9.99.

TOPSHOP. my 'walking home' spree, I found these shorts for just £10 in the sale, but Im not convinced on the colour now they are home and will probably take them back.I also picked some cool jewellery in the sale for 1/2 price. Lastly in top shop I brought 2 crop vest in olive green and petrol grey. Something else i've had my eye on for a while and they were on other 2 for £10. BARGIN.

It kills me to Curl

My hair is naturally straight as an arrow, straight as ruler and straight as david beckham. But of course I want curls. My hair hates curls with a passion, Last night I curled my hair for 2 hours!! which I had to re-do this morning, another hour. A ton of hairspray later and a walk to work my hard working curls had dropped.

I have tried everything but my hair just hates it. It makes me so angry you have no idea, SO PLEASE ANY TIPS FOR CURLING CRAZT STRAIGHT HAIR PLEASE GET IN TOUCH!!

After the excitement of sales, the second most exciting thing is - the new collections! I posted earlier this week about the new River Island A/W collection (you can read it here!); and now I want to show you the new collection from high street queens NEW LOOK. And my first thought? This looks expensive!

A variety of mod oversized dogtooth jackets, leather skirts and dresses and enough tartan to decorate Holyrood Palace. Prices start from £22.99 and keep the New Look price tags; nothing is over priced or expensive which is great. Especially when they look this good! You'll look asif you have spent £100's.

SPLURGE

So since I got back from the Isle of Greece - 2 days ago I have gone a semi splurge in sales. It was fun to come back and see that everywhere has gone sale mad and with huge discounts! many up to 50% off!

On route this morning I stopped in River Island and New Look and got these great peices:

Leopard print pencil skirt £, Blue scarf print trousers £10, polka dot crop vest £10, Pink leopard print dress £15, aztec belt £5 all river island. And leopard print palazzo trousers £6!

I'm so happy with these! I wanted them all when they were full price but just wasn't rich enough to buy them. Im still not! But as my dad said 'you only live once'. The palazzo trousers was an amazing find! before holiday I was searching high and low for them everywhere - couldnt find them! I was hoping to get an amazing pair oof wedge shoes from New Look but they didnt have my size :( GUTTED. they did before I went away, which so much I brought them then. Luckily we have TWO New Look stores in town so I will give the other store a try this weekend, otherwise Im gunna have to hope they are online.

While Away I brought this amazing leopard print jumpsuit - just €26!!! bargin! Cant wait to pair it with a denmin shirt tied up at the front. and some flatform sandles to dress it down.

I couldnt help myself and brought 2 books in Sainsburys (such bargins)! and New issue of ELLE, which comes with a 'runway edit' supplement and a free ST Tropez tinted moisturizer.  While away it was my mother's birthday, one of her friends brought her some badges as a 'joke' present and my mom has given them to me. I love there quotes and will definitely feature in some outfit posts soon.

 

Though I cant afford to shop and have spent loads of money this week, it hasnt stopped me from searching every high street shop website to see whats new in. My shopping list is huge! why am I not a millionaress yet?

Model and presenter Kelly Brook has been working with new look for a few years now, producing ranges  of 50's swimwear and vintage inspired underwear. I own a couple of the bikini's and swinsuits, so always get excited at the news of new range launching; and this week Kelly has launched clothing!

Kelly is well known for her amazing curvy figure, and the 50's tea dress she wears to flaunt it to it's best. So it is obvious that like her personal style and previous underwear/swimwear ranges her clothes are going to mirror the same modern twist on her 50's glamour look.

i have such an issue with money. i am generally completely skint right now; not the type of skint when you tell people your really skint but there's a couple coins in your purse and a fiver in your bank. i mean the type of poor when i actually generally have no funds at all. i am £23 over drawn and i don't even have a overdraft!

So the bank wouldn't charge me XXXX amount for being overdrawn i went to my savings account (which is low already) and paid some money into my account. I also took out a bit extra to cover me until i get paid next thursday. Not a lot £20, more than enough for essinstals but enough to buy food, emergency petrol if i need it. The second i walked out of the bank i headed straight to the new shopping centre in town to see what i could buy!
what is wrong with me? i do this every month, and the reason i am £23 overdrawn is because of this exact same reason! last week, while stalking the world of tumblr i found these amazing leggings. i'm not a leggings person, but these are just so f-ing cool i had to have, no questions asked.

yes i know i know there are truely amazing. i found them on the site www.prettysucks.com they have a few really lush things, but the majority of it isn't to my taste. But anyways i found these and on the stite it said 'last few remaining' so i couldn't sit and dwell on weather to buy them or not. i had to just do ahead and do it.

 

the site is german and they arrived within a week which really impressed me. Also i got 2 stickers, i love this when you recieve free merch with purchases, it makes it feel so personal . in town i did try on a few bits in my favourite shop right now - New Look they have this ugly neon aztec print veset top which i fell in love with, and a mint green vintage lace crop top (couldnt fit more adjec tives in there if i tried!)

i though the 2 would look cool layered together, which they did. i wanted to buy the zest top and walked over to the till. they had obviously crashed and there was a new bird on the tills runnning around headless not knowing what to do. so i dumped the top on a rail of leopard print skirts and bailed.

i did however cross the road to HMV and brought Dum Dum girls duebt and Hunter S, Thompson's Fear and loathing in las vegas. ohh and some socks, girls gotta have socks. so from my £20 i had, i now have £4 to last me till next wednesday. and it can't come soon enough.

Now the biggest decision of my evening is what colour to dye my hair...
